Matyáš Pavlík

Matyas Pavlik, born in 1984 in the Czech Republic, grew up between the United States and Mexico. Both of his parents are glass sculptors, so he has been surrounded by glass and art since day one. Exposed to many cultures, landscapes and languages, the diverse colors and approaches have shaped his personality and style.

While studying graphic design at the University of San Francisco, he spent a semester at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague. Here he discovered his passion for hands-on work with clay and plaster and became fascinated with the limitless possibilities of kiln casting. In order to master the skill of glass casting - a method developed in Železný Brod in North Bohemia - he moved to the Czech Republic and began working alongside his mother, Vladimír Klumparová.

In 2012, Matyas joined the design project "M.O.M" (My Object Museum), which introduced him to the Czech heritage of glass production and cutting. Captivated by the craftsmanship of this disappearing applied art, he began incorporating traditional cutting techniques into his conceptual glass castings.
