About Michal Ožibko
He created his first oil painting at the age of 14. In high school he got into graffiti, which later influenced the formats of his current works in the medium of classical hanging. The same "experience of the street" also radicalizes Ožibek's view of what can become the real (now no longer just artistic) and substantive motif, the subject of a painting. His painterly expression tends towards a photorealistic and even hyperrealistic visuality, yet he also ventures into a purely non-figurative position. The resulting technically perfect form ceases to be "only" an instrument of artistic representation, but the formal and technical-technological aspect itself is retrospectively self-reflexively commented upon by the whole of the artwork. Ožibek's handwriting is delicate in its realist position, concentrating on the technique of the glaze, which he explores and refines. By delicately layering several translucent layers of oil paint, he gradually achieves the effect of a supple painting surface. The technique of glazing, fundamental to classical painting, then reaches its peak in Ožibko's duet "i-Death" (British Portrait Award, British Portrait Gallery - 2010).Thematically, Ožibko's works deal with depicting traditional compositions of common objects or historically anchored themes and iconography, which he redefines and intervenes in contexts that often have both existential character and cultural, socio-spiritual overlaps.

In case of works costing between €10,000 and €15,000, we are obliged to identify the buyer under the AML Act. After returning back to the Czech Republic, I still had a deep need to educate myself on this issue and find out as much information as possible. Based on this, the only possible outlet for me was painting where I had the opportunity to express some disagreement or perhaps draw some attention to the problem. Stories and compositions began to emerge of girls I portrayed as strong heroines or fragile girls who were getting a lot of unwanted attention. In the paintings I reduced the descriptiveness a lot, I didn't think it was important to portray very young girls realistically, and I emphasized color and symbols.
